Video series on lectures

for lecturers

Why integrate videos into your teaching?

  • Flexibility and customisation: The videos under CC-BY licence allow you to use, integrate or remix materials and excerpts and adapt them perfectly to the needs of your event. You only need to credit the creator when re-using the material.
  • Explanation of basics: The videos offer easy-to-understand, quality-assured explanations of basic science and engineering content. The content comes directly from the faculty of the University of Stuttgart.
  • Easy availability: In contrast to the numerous explanatory videos that are scattered around the internet, these offerings are customised to a specific degree course and made easily accessible. The videos can be used quickly and easily in your own lectures by giving the creator's name.
  • Support for students: The videos help to harmonise the heterogeneous knowledge levels of students, especially at the beginning of their studies. This applies to preparation for lectures and exams. The individual self-learning resources allow students to supplement the lecture content at their own pace and as often as they like, thus avoiding frustration at the beginning of their studies.

Possible application scenarios

  • Edition as preparation for a lecture
  • As an additional offer for exam preparation
  • As a freely available and online self-study resource for familiarising yourself with new topics

How you can use the videos

Start now: Give your students the opportunity to grasp key concepts at their own pace and understand them in a sustainable way. Save yourself a long search for high-quality video material. Instead, simply use what the University of Stuttgart has to offer to supplement your existing teaching formats.

FAQs for lecturers on video series

The videos have been quality-checked, both in terms of content and didactics. They are licenced under CC-BY 4.0 and can therefore be used, distributed and modified by anyone.

Yes, the videos are "open", i.e. they are not only available for everyone to watch, but may also be used, adapted and redistributed in lectures under the CC-BY licence.

There are no limits here. You could embed videos or just excerpts of them in your lecture, give the videos out as preparation or follow-up work or recommend them for exam preparation.

The complete videos last less than 10 minutes per video. You can easily use only individual excerpts of the videos and thus customise them to your lecture.

You can find the currently available videos in the media centre.

Students on the major STEM degree programmes in the first semesters in particular can benefit from the videos in parallel to attending lectures and preparing for exams. The videos can also be used to refresh important concepts during the rest of the degree programme.

The project "digit@L - Digital Teaching and Learning at the University of Stuttgart: Boost. Skills. Support." is funded by the Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre.
