Learning Nuggets, Microcredentials and others: Establishing qualification certificates

Discover our certificate program: Digital Literacy

At the University of Stuttgart, students can choose between individual digital courses and a comprehensive certificate program in "Digital Literacy", depending on their personal learning goals and career plans. Since the 2022 summer semester, digitalisation and AI have been firmly anchored in the Interdisciplinary Key Qualifications (FÜSQ) program, with the opportunity to earn ECTS points. The "Digital Literacy" certificate program also offers a cross-curriculum course.

Flexible and/or comprehensive learning program

The certificate program is designed in such a way that students must attend courses from at least two competence areas, supplemented, for example, by a reflection report at the end of the program. By awarding microcredentials for individual courses - starting from 1 ECTS - we enable a flexible program design with a total scope of 12 to 15 ECTS. The introduction to the program can take place via face-to-face events or online courses.

Available in the Studium Generale

Affiliated to the Studium Generale, our certificate program is open to all students and promotes an interdisciplinary approach to digital technologies and artificial intelligence. It offers a unique opportunity to prepare for the digital future, acquire new skills and actively shape your own educational biography.

Program development and structure

Our courses, some of which were developed as part of the digit@L project, are designed to impart theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of digitalisation and artificial intelligence. The certificate program is based on the Enterra "Digital Competence Check" (DCC) competence model, which is based on the European Reference Framework for Digital Competence (DigComp 2.1) and national media competence models. For more information, please visit the website "Digital Competence Check" [de].

What to choose: individual courses or certificate program?

  1. structured learning pathway: a certificate program provides a well-designed and structured way to systematically learn comprehensive digital skills. It covers a wide range of topics that are carefully aligned to promote in-depth understanding.
  2. recognition and certification: graduates receive a certificate that officially recognises their comprehensive knowledge and skills in the field of digital competencies. This certificate can be a valuable differentiator on a CV.
  3. engagement and motivation: commitment to a full program can increase learner engagement and motivation. The ongoing structure and end goals of the program can lead to a deeper investment in the learning process.
  4. interdisciplinary learning: certificate programs often offer the opportunity to look at digital skills from different perspectives, which enriches learning and improves applicability in different professional contexts.
  5. networking: by participating in a comprehensive program, learners can build relationships with fellow students and faculty, which can create valuable networks for future careers.
  1. flexibility: individual courses offer great flexibility in terms of choice of topics, time management and learning speed. Learners can choose courses based on their specific interests or immediate needs.
  2. specialisation: individual courses allow for targeted specialisation in specific areas of digital skills. For those who already have basic knowledge, this can be an effective way to develop specialised skills.
  3. shorter commitment: participation in individual courses usually requires a shorter time commitment than a full certificate programme. This can be beneficial for learners with limited time or specific short-term goals.
  4. immediate application: individual courses allow learners to start learning specific, directly applicable skills immediately, which is particularly useful for those who want to quickly develop skills for current projects or job requirements.
