Can you trust your own judgement? In everyday life, we make lots of decisions and judgements and most of the time we assume that decision-making is a conscious process. But this is not always the case. This talk deals with the subject of cognitive distortions, the shortcuts that the brain takes to make decisions quickly and efficiently, focusing on distorted perceptions and judgments in everyday life, but also on distorted cognitions, which are considered a mechanism for the perpetuation of mental illness. A consideration of the basic heuristics will be followed by a discussion about proposed solutions and tips to avoid these cognitive traps.

Speaker:
Selma Fazlija has held scholarship from Avicenna-Studienwerk since 2016 and is also spokesperson for the Bavaria South regional group. She is currently studying Clinical Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. Part of her bachelor's thesis focused on the relationship between social anxiety disorder and cognitive distortions and executive functions.

As part of our annual theme "Reimagining Space  - New Utopias", School for Talents invites you to explore ideas with guests from the Begabtenförderungswerke (programs for the promotion of talented students) of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
