Technologies are political. For example, they can be harnessed to drive sustainable developments. However, this is not a process that can be completely controlled, or something that happens without active participation. Rather, the right framework conditions are required, and the demand must be there within society to enable the development and advancement of desirable technologies. Therefore, technologies always have a political and social component.

Leonie Mader, Innovation and Sustainability Officer at the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V., will be giving a short presentation explaining why a political foundation is involved with hydrogen, electromobility or biotechnology and what insights can be gained from this. She addresses the question of how to distinguish between enabling and disabling technologies and who gets to decide. The presentation will also explain why, from a historical point of view, simply illuminating the relevant technical properties is not sufficient - but nevertheless useful.

The lecture will be followed by an introduction to services offered to support talented students, and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation e.V.. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions on this topic.
