Faculty Projects (Winter Term 2026)

BE BEST-Talents

Architecture and Urban Planning I Dr. Sigrid Busch

How do civil-society initiatives foster equitable and inclusive alternatives to investor-driven urban development? That is the question BE BEST (Belgrade — Building Knowledge on Equitable and Sustainable Transformation) pursues in Belgrade: you analyze how urban renewal and participatory processes — in a politically and socially polarized environment — can create a shared vision for sustainable change and better support vulnerable groups. An international workshop with local experts and a conference on the ongoing EU research project DASH (Deliver sAfe and Social Housing) add practical experience and critical reflection.

Building Narratives-Talents

Architecture and Urban Planning I Paul Hensgen

Beyond the built object: Building Narratives investigates how architecture can be described, documented, exhibited, and narrated — through different media and formats. Starting from well-known and lesser-known texts and essays, you develop your own forms of "Curating Architecture" and try out strategies of presentation and narration. Contributions from architecture curators offer insights into their own practice, and an interdisciplinary workshop helps you develop the right relationship between form and content.

ITECH-Talents

Architecture and Urban Planning I Katja Rinderspacher

Architecture students sit down with experts from different fields to discuss their forward-looking projects at the ITECH Expert Lecture Series and Conference — and present their own work at international conferences.

Climate x Living–Talents

Architecture and Urban Planning I Paul Vogt

A pavilion for the International Building Exhibition 2027 — built in front of the library on the Stadtmitte campus and activated during the Stadtgarten Festival in cooperation with the SI. In an interdisciplinary team, students of IWE and IBBTE take the design to execution readiness. Students conduct the material tests and mockups in preparation for the building phase.

CHEMampere-Talents

Chemistry, Electrical Engineering I Paul Rößner

Where does a campus get its energy? In a practice-oriented, research-based project, you explore sustainable energy supply using the WAVE-H2 laboratory building — solar panels on the roof, energy-storage research underneath — and develop a physical or theoretical prototype. Mentors from the CHEMampere network help you turn your own ideas into reality in the workshops and laboratories of Faculties 3 and 5.

Cybernetics Research-Talents

Engineering Cybernetics

The Cybernetics Research Fellowship Program addresses cybernetic research questions of the future early on. High-performing and broadly interested students in the B.Sc. and M.Sc. program Technical Cybernetics receive mentoring by professors, exciting additional modules, support for internships abroad, and participation in international conferences.

SOURCE-2 Excellence CubeSat-Talents

Aerospace Engineering I Marlin Kanzow

Space begins smaller than you think: you design, build, and test a CubeSat — a miniature research satellite — in a real student space project. Find out more about SOURCE (Stuttgart Operated University Research CubeSat for Evaluation and Education) here.

VitaBeat-Talents

Computer Science I Jonathan Stumber

What does your playlist do to your heartbeat? As part of VitaBeat-Talents, you work on VitaBeat, a mobile research app that links music-streaming data (e.g. Spotify) with vital parameters like heart rate and subjective well-being — measured by a smartwatch. Guided by researchers from IPVS and VIS, you are introduced early to research questions of your own and empowered to take your first steps in independent scientific work — from study design and implementation to data collection and analysis — with the goal of publishing your results as a scientific paper and presenting them at a conference such as SKILL.

Fairytale-Journey-Talents

Romance Literatures I Dr. Selina Seibel

The project investigates — together with university students and school pupils — how fairy-tale characters make decisions on their journeys, and how the tales themselves "travel" between the French and Italian traditions, being adapted and retold in the process. The aim is to combine literary research with creative science communication: after a research trip to GRIMMWELT Kassel, the results will become visible in the digital "MärchenReiseBlog", complete with a pedagogical dossier.

SynBio School-Talents

Technical Biology I Prof. Michael Heymann

In a team, you develop and implement your own synthetic-biology project, and pick up everything a scientific career demands along the way: creativity, literature research, financing and feasibility, execution, ethics, and time to reflect on the question of what your research is for. International competitions like iGEM or BioMOD are on the agenda, and peer-reviewed publications are within reach.

Neuroergononmics Research-Talents

Technology Management I Dr. Katharina Lingelbach

How is the emotional colouring of spoken language reflected in brain and bodily signals – and can this information be decoded reliably using explainable machine learning? These are the questions that 5–8 Master's students investigate in the project Neuroergonomics Research Talents, working through a complete research cycle: from hypothesis development and preregistration through multimodal data acquisition with EEG, fNIRS, eye tracking, ECG and EDA to data processing, analysis and presentation of the results. Participants contribute to an ongoing, publication-oriented research project and build a methodological profile that is equally relevant for a Master's thesis, a doctorate and research-oriented work in industry.
