Project Meeting at the Institute of Construction Materials

When does it ever happen that scientists from fields such as organic chemistry, architecture and biology take part in a tour of the materials testing facility at the Institute for Construction Materials (IWB)?

The project participants of the Chitinfluid project met again on April 29 for the regularly scheduled colloquium. Each time, these meetings offer completely new insights and interdisciplinary synergies for all participants. For the first time since the start of the research project, the meeting could take place in presence in premises of the IWB. First, the individual working groups presented their latest results and challenges. The presentations were followed with great interest and many questions could be raised, solved and discussed beyond the boundaries of the different departments. In personal exchanges, individual topics were explained in more depth and expanded upon.

The tour through the various laboratories of the materials testing facility (MPA), which included testing and workshops for materials such as fire test facilities and facilities for long-term mechanical tests, gave a deep insight into the qualification of modern building materials, but also into the work of the IWB in the field of porous building materials.

Prof. Harald Garrecht led the group through the impressive halls and not only explained the facilities and test stands, but also explained the history of the MPA and reported on the cooperation with various industrial partners. The great potential of sustainable building materials was not only mentioned in Prof. Garrecht's lecture in the morning but could also be illustrated to the participants during the tour.

Finally, during a concluding lunch at the IWB, discussions could be deepened, contacts could be made and plans for joint investigations and test series could be made.
